more apartment inspiration

i absolutely loved this spread in elle, featuring leslie fremar’s apartment.  fremar’s tribeca loft was decorated by julianne moore, who also decorated her old apartment in the west village (domino magazine fans may remember the issue featuring this apartment).

i think moore did such a great job combining masculine and feminine elements, and i love the mix of the deep blues, accentuated with yellows, orange, and white lacquer.  the natural wood accents ensure that the space is comfortable and livable.

this spread is becoming my inspiration for my color scheme.

these three images are my personal scans.

apartment moodboard

since i just moved, i have been slowly sourcing pieces for my new place.  i have some furniture from my old place, but am replacing a handful of key items.

most importantly, it is time for a grown up sofa.  my old sofa was faithful, but the misshapen seats and odd beige color now look a little sad.

when i found this mitchell gold + bob williams liam sofa in a gorgeous navy with nailhead trim on sale at the outlet, i hesitated at first.  i was fixated on going as neutral as possible for a sofa, because it is such a big investment.  but my good friend becca assuaged my fears, reminding me that 1) navy is a neutral and 2) i can make it look classic by toning down the rest of the pieces.  after putting this moodboard together, turns out she was absolutely right.

the sofa is now mine.  now if i could only afford the rest of these pieces…

hello nyc

for the first time, i am a permanent resident of new york city.  i have lived here for a few summers, and have visited a lot, but have never been able to call myself a new york resident.  until now.

this is the view of this magnificent city from williamsburg, brooklyn, shot on my instax camera.

angelina tearoom – paris

probably my favorite food experience in paris.

we went for breakfast, and i had to get the famous hot chocolate.  it is basically liquid chocolate, which you then stir whipped cream into.

the cream actually makes it easier to drink because it is so thick.

stirring in the cream…

oh and they have other treats too.

#sugarcomaforever but totally worth it.

hotel thoumieux

here are some pictures of my awesome hotel in paris — hotel thoumieux.

i know the decor isn’t for everyone, but i absolutely loved the dizzying mix of patterns.

the bathroom is marble, complete with a clawfoot tub.

possibly the best part: full size aesop products.  i took 3 showers a day just so i could keep using them (not joking…).

actually this was the best part.  this is the view from outside the hotel, down the street.

i want to go back immediately.  for those of you traveling to paris who want a boutique hotel experience, i would highly recommend the hotel thoumieux.
