since i have some time off, i thought i would make some art for my new apartment. i used color-aid paper and make these outfit cut outs.
i bought some inexpensive frames from ebay to finish them off.

dinner jacket

one of my favorite lines in casino royale is when vesper says to bond: “there are dinner jackets, and there are dinner jackets. this is the latter.”
after a stop at billy reid the other day, i now have my very own dinner jacket.
the shell of the jacket is made of raw silk, and it is fully lined in silk. the details are just breathtaking: the notched lapel, the exposed stitching, the fully covered buttons, the double vent in the back….i could go on and on.
this is easily the most well-made piece of clothing in my closet. i love how you can actually see and feel the craftsmanship that went into sewing the jacket.
the jacket will be perfect for work, but is also great for throwing over a dress or jeans for a night out. i can’t wait to start wearing it!

favorite blueberry muffins

i use this recipe and skip the lemon glaze. i also use fresh frozen berries (spread fresh blueberries on a cookie sheet, freeze them, and then bag them until you are ready to use). the buttermilk takes the muffins to a new level. even though they are low fat, no one will know the difference.

cooking fear #2: homemade pie crust. i once thought homemade pie crust would turn making a pie into a day-long affair. however, using ina garten’s perfect pie crust recipe, i managed to turn these:

in just a few hours (including baking time). turns out that making your own crust really is worth it.
