refinished chest

i wish i had before/after pictures of this chest, but i sadly did not think that far ahead.  just imagine it dark brown wood, with brass door-knocker style handles.

full chest

a fresh coat of white paint and clear knobs have made all the difference, and it is now much more in sync with my current decor style.

since the chest is right by my door, it is a landing spot for my keys, random odds and ends, and the jewelry i wear everyday.

perfect pieces: manolo blahnik bb tortoise shell pump

since i wear far more navy than black at work, i have spent the last 4 months looking for shoes to wear with navy (besides nude).  during the majority of that time, i was looking at navy pumps.  i soon realized the problem with navy shoes though – since navy comes in so many shades, it was impossible to find a navy that worked with all my navy clothes.

enter my first pair of manolo blahniks.  while randomly browsing the sale rack at a neiman marcus in mcclean, va (where i was for a wedding), i came across these gorgeous patent tortoise-shell print pointy-toe pumps.  the 4 inch heel is sexy but still work appropriate and comfortable, and the colors will work with navy, black, gray, and basically every other color i wear.

manolos

oh, and they were 75% off.  #shoegodsloveme.

liam sofa

i finally got around to taking some pictures of my new sofa.  it is the liam sofa, by mitchell gold + bob williams.  it is makes the exact statement i was looking for, with its clean lines, lush blue velvet, and brass nailhead trim.  i am completely in love.

polaroids as home decor

i am always looking for ways to incorporate the polaroids i have taken over the years into my home decor, and i have so far come with two.

first: put stacks of polaroids in a decorative bowl.  it encourages both you and your guests to rifle through them on a whim, and relive some old memories.

polaroid 1polaroid 4two:  arrange polaroids in a grid and frame them, using a simple black frame and a white mat.  i used some of my favorite images from my trip to paris in september.

polaroid 2because i wanted to add some dimension, i loosely taped the polaroids down onto the backing, instead of glueing them.  this will allow me to switch out the images later if i want, and gives the whole piece a more organic feel.

this is one of my favorite times in the year to be in nyc.  the crowds can be intense, but the beautiful lights make it worth braving the crazy shoppers.  here are some shots from my stroll down fifth avenue. (warning: picture heavy post!).

perfect pieces: the gray t-shirt

on a recent trip to bloomingdales, i discovered the perfect (for me) gray t-shirt.  it is designed by celebrity stylist leslie fremar, and produced by fruit of the loom.

key features: 1) 100% cotton; 2) french seam running down the back; 3) thick enough to wear alone but thin enough to layer; 4) long length and 5) relatively inexpensive (3 for $50)
