summer is in full swing here in the city, and the union square greenmarket is ripe (pun intended) with amazing fruits and vegetables.  using a few recent wonderful meals as inspiration, i made the below for dinner.  the recipes are linked as well.

my healthy baking train continues with these vegan, gluten-free, added sugar free brownies.  i didn’t have the patience to let them cool for 45 minutes to an hour, which is why they ended up a bit crumbly.  they were still very delicious.

now that summer is in full swing, i am doing my best to make healthy swaps, especially in my baking.  plus, i pretty much only want to eat food that is cold.  i saw this video and couldn’t wait to try the recipe at home.  i am please to report that these pots are easy, delicious, and incredibly filling.

on a saturday night when i was too tired to cook a real meal, we decided that a cheese board would have to make do instead.  i used this recipe for the puffed pastry, and it was easy and incredibly delicious.  i added strawberry jam but i am sure it would be wonderful just as is.

now that the weather is finally warming up here in nyc, i’m so excited about the light and fresh fruits and vegetables that will be stocked at the farmer’s market.  i did take advantage of a recent cold rainy night to make one of my go-to comfort dishes – a south indian style vegetable curry.

update:  recipe can be found here.

while running errands this weekend, i dropped by a new french cafe and bakery in my neighborhood called chanson.  completely charmed by the decor and friendly staff, i picked up a few treats to try out.  of course i can’t remember the name of the pastry, but it was filled with hazelnut cream and was one of the best pastries i have had outside of france.

one of my favorite traditions is to get up early on saturday morning and make brunch.  i have gotten into a frittata/pancake rut lately, so when i saw something called a souffléd omelet on instagram, i was instantly intrigued.

after some googling, i settled on this recipe.  the only changes i made was to use spinach instead of asparagus and spoon the goat cheese filling on top instead of instead and folding it over.  it was still delicious, and fancy enough to make brunch feel extra special.

as promised, below are a few photos of some of the delish food we had in chiang mai.  most of it came from markets or street stands, though we did have an amazing meal at ginger & safe.

i was also delighted to see so many brooklyn/new york style coffee shops.  one of them was even serving stumptown coffee!

to celebrate my first weekend in my newly renovated apartment (pictures to come!), i went to the union square greenmarket and picked up farm eggs, micro greens (evidently this is just baby arugula), chèvre, and fresh sourdough bread.  i made an open face sandwich, and it ended up being one of the best brunches i have had in a while.

breakfast sandwich

30 Tuesday Aug 2016

i sometimes find myself going down a youtube rabbit hole, and the next thing i know, hours have passed and i have watched countless 3-5 minute clips.  one of my favorite channels lately has been from vogue.  their 73 question interviews are so fun, and occasionally, i stumble on something incredibly useful.  case in point – this quick video on making the perfect breakfast sandwich.

below is my version of the sandwich.  i swapped out the ciabatta for brioche, and used homemade lox instead of prosciutto on my bf’s.  this was the perfect sunday morning brunch to break us out of our frittata rut.
