i finally made alison roman’s chickpea stew this weekend, and it was just as promised – easy, inexpensive, and delicious. i made a few changes to the receipe: spinach instead of kale, 1 cup of coconut milk instead of 2; and parsley instead of cilantro because that’s all i had. a little squeeze of lime to top it off. perfect for a cold winter’s night.

we recently went to gramercy tavern for a very special anniversary. we splurged this time and got the full tasting menu – it was absolutely wonderful and a perfect way to celebrate.

we were so fortunate to finally make it down the street to one of the best restaurants in the world – eleven madison park. even though i am vegetarian, i did not feel cheated out of the amazing culinary experience at all (we even got to visit the impeccable kitchen!). it was truly a night to remember.

the most important part of our recent trip to napa was probably what we ate and drank. everywhere we went, even the most casual diner, served dishes that blew our minds. perhaps it is all the access to fresh, local food? i mean where else in america can you get perfectly ripe strawberries in december? below are some shots of our favorite dishes.

i clung onto the end of summer as long as i could. these tomatoes from the union square market were sweet and juicy, and were a great way to finish a great season. i made a quick spread of mayo and calabrian chili paste. yum.

my best friend and i spent a recent saturday brunching and jewelry shopping. now if that isn’t a perfect day, i don’t know what is. our spot of choice was bobo, a little taste of a parisian bistro in the middle of the west village. they also have a great roof deck for private events.

we went for a date night at wayla in the lower east side, and it was worth the wait. the food was fresher and more authentic than what you normally get in thai takeout. can’t wait to go back. (sorry for the dark pictures!)

i binge watched salt, fat, acid, heat one weekend on netflix and have been making this roasted vegetable salad on repeat since then. i just use whatever veggies i have around. so delicious and easy – and the long cooking time is totally worth it.
