the best thing about winter is that i don’t feel bad staying in and hibernating.  hibernating usually turns into baking, then eating, and then sleeping.

i used this recipe to make pecan bars, and they turned out to be easy and delicious.

i have been knee deep in organizing my iPhone photos, and i realized i never posted these from our wonderful trip to carmel.  we went to the post ranch inn in big sur for my birthday dinner, and the setting, food, and service were all impeccable.

it got dark too early to catch the full sunset, but the little sliver of what was left was still breathtaking.

i was lucky to spend my birthday weekend at the beautiful carmel valley ranch in carmel valley, california.  the property was spectacular, and the staff was welcoming and lovely. i sadly didn’t get a shot of our room before our things exploded all over it, so let’s start with the view from our balcony.

i was going through my summer euro trip photos and i realized that i never posted these pictures of a glorious meal we had at gymkhana.  i typically do not eat indian food in restaurants, but i always make an exception for this wonderful restaurant.

one of my favorite restaurants near my apartment is the little beet table.  my must-order dish is the cauliflower hummus, and i finally decided to try the recipe at home.  it turned out to be so simple but delicious.

i am going through a big pistachio phase lately.  ice cream, cookies, pie, and cake….i want it all covered in pistachios.  i tried this amazing recipe from smitten kitchen, and the cake turned out to be a decadent breakfast.

hey, the strawberries make it healthy, okay?

as the temperature dips, the season of roasting vegetables comes closer and closer.  while i could easily eat an entire plate of roasted veggies, when i found this recipe that turned them into “meatballs,” i knew i had to try it.  i’m not a big fan of eggplant, so i used zucchini instead.  i’m happy to report that they turned out to be delicious.

even though i have stayed in the 7th arrondissement before, this was my first time visiting michel chaudun’s chocolate shop.  i went there for the famous pave box, and of course left with even more.  even though i don’t smoke, i love how the chocolate box is shaped like a cigarette box.  tres chic.

pave box.  make sure to keep refrigerated and eat within 10 days.  this was clearly not an issue for me, given that this picture was taken about 15 minutes after i left the shop.

even though it is only 10 minutes from my apartment, it wasn’t until recently that i went to check out the new york outpost of dover street market.  we had a lovely brunch there, and even sat next to rick owens and michele lamy!  the clothes are a bit out there, but work perfectly with the store’s clearly defined aesthetic.

this was the first time i had clotted cream outside london.  americans definitely need to adopt it as part of our diets…so delicious.

acai bowls

ever since trader joe’s started carrying acai packets, i think i have made acai bowls about 3x a week.  they hit the spot on these hot nyc days, and making them at home is much for cost effective than paying $10+ at a juice bar.  i topped these with bananas, blueberries, and homemade granola.

i used this recipe.
