as soon as i saw an instagram story of someone making this recipe, i knew i had to try it. i didn’t have all the ingredients and subbed where i could, but even with the imperfections, it turned out beautifully (and delicious!).
i dished it up with spinach and brown rice, but next time, i will definitely use white rice and broccoli. also, i’m not a food blogger, but i promise i am going to try to take better food pictures this year!

you know those recipes that are so easy that you can remember them after making them once? and are perfect for using the sad mediocre produce that is the only thing you can find in the winter? yea, ina’s zucchini pancakes recipe is one of those. so quick, so delicious, and turned our perfectly on the first try.

i was going through my photos and found this gem from thanksgiving. a good friend of mine and i made this sticky toffee pudding, and it was easily one of the best desserts made in my kitchen. the sauce was better than any salted caramel. i wanted to sit in a corner and eat it with a spoon. oh and it was topped with vanilla whipped cream. clearly I couldn’t wait to take the picture before digging in.

pretty much the only thing that makes the nyc cold bearable is baking. since my jeans won’t be able to handle decadent treats all winter, i tried this recipe for vegan, gluten-free cookies. they turned out pretty well, and i feel like the lack of sugar means that they are an acceptable breakfast.

i had the most delightful brunch with a friend at sadelle’s in soho. despite the (very) long wait for our meals, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. the bagel sandwiches and crispy potatoes were delicious, and the sticky bun might just be my new favorite pastry treat in the city. i still daydream about it…
i may have started eating the stick bun before i could snap a picture.

after reading that hunan slurp in the east village was one of nytimes food critic pete well’s favorite eats for 2018, i knew i had to go. the vegetarian option was just okay, but evidently the pork and beef were excellent, especially for a cold rainy day.
when we went, the restaurant didn’t have its liquor license yet so it was byob. there are some great wine and liquor shops in the area, so that worked out well.

there’s a new(ish) bagel place in town. since there is always a line out the door at the nolita location, i stopped by the nomad store this weekend. the decor was very on trend, and my avocado, egg, cheese, and tomato bagel was even better.

i brought home a handful of fresh figs from the market and didn’t know what to do with them at first. luckily, the ny times food section had this recipe, and i somehow had everything on hand.
fig and almond cake, coffee, and nectarines made a perfect breakfast.

i made my favorite pancakes for a special treat this weekend. i also cooked down some strawberries with a splash of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of coconut sugar. if i could guarantee that my jeans would fit, i would eat these every day.
