we finally made it to the lower east side to check out morgenstern’s ice cream.  aka my new happy place.  the warm weather meant about a 20 minute wait in line, but it was totally worth it.

morgensterns 1 morgensterns 2 morgensterns 3 morgensterns 4 obsessed with this floor.morgensterns 5though not as much as the salted caramel pretzel ice cream topped with…more salted caramel.  if this is wrong, i don’t want to be right.

just in: lanvin flats

14 Monday Mar 2016

after two pairs of my flats decided to die (and my cobbler regretfully told me that even he could not bring them to life), i found these beauties during the very tail end of bergdorf goodman’s winter sale.

the red is surprisingly versatile, and still adds a nice pop to your outfit.  they are going to my cobbler for protection before they brave the streets of new york.

cacao prieto distillery

07 Monday Mar 2016

on a recent (relatively) warm saturday, i finally took a trip down to red hook, brooklyn and toured the cacao prieto distillery.  cacao prieto is both a chocolate factory and a whiskey distillery, so it is basically heaven.  although they make one of my favorite bourbons, widow jane, it wasn’t until a friend told me that i realized that the distillery was a subway ride (an short uber) away.  and the chocolate?  that was the cherry on top.

IMG_4881 IMG_4882 $20 gets you a tour of both the chocolate and whiskey-making facilities, and tastings of both.IMG_4883 the most beautiful wrappers i have every seen.  sorry mast brothers.IMG_4884 IMG_4885 old school chocolate making machines.IMG_4886the whiskey distilling machine.  meeting the individuals who make these goods by hand gives you a good sense of the skill, care, and time it takes to make artisanal, local products.IMG_4888IMG_4889 my leopard isabel marants were key for standing during the 1 1/2 hour tour.IMG_4892raw cacao nibs.
IMG_4894they had chickens and a peacock in the courtyard.  because why not?

if anyone is looking for a fun and interesting excursion for a few hours in new york, i highly recommend the tour.  plus you can get some goodies to enjoy long after its over.
